Some photos from a day at Lasalle Highscool…

Last month I went to Lasalle High School to perform for a teacher friend of mine’s dance class! They were all marked on dances that they created to a song of mine. I was close to choking up at times, it’s really quite something, flattering, to see someone create art to your art. I received a few photos over the weekend, so here ya go! Still waiting on the videos of some of the dances ;) ;) Ms. Neilson!

This friday coming up…

This Friday night I’ll be playing over at the Centre St. Ambroise  , I’ll be solo for the most part, also singing and playing piano in some songs with Erik Lind and his band.  Besides Erik and myself,  also playing this Friday is the lovely Chloe Charles, who I had the pleasure of hearing last week, very unique sound and inspiring material. As well, Paul Jantzi who I have not heard yet but have heard good things, will be playing. So an evening of 4acts. Here’s the link to the facebook page:

This is a sunday for coffee …

The first Rain fall of the season is making us all feel gray and tired and well, bleah. I decided to keep up with the caffeine today for that extra boost. I’m probably coming down from a cappuccino high since Last night’s show at Le Zigoto Cafe.
I have never had so much foam on my cappuccino, the best! Here’s some pictures from last night:

sick

I hate being sick. Other than it taking me away from my monotonous day job which I grow to loathe more and more each day. But hey, that’s life as a musician I guess, you have to put up with those jobs that let you do what you really want to do. I’m sure there’s a way around this. I’m on a mission to find work that doesn’t drive me crazy. Does that exist?

I’m leaving for a much needed vacation to Florida with some friends over Easter weekend. I can’t wait, were going to Sarasota and yes we are going to stop in to Disney World, because I have never been!!!

I’ve got three shows this month , lots of rehearsals, and plans to go to Toronto in Mid April to do some recordings.

Busy Busy, I need not to be sick now.

Some upcoming performances ……and a day at Lasalle High School

I’ll be playing two shows next weekend, the 25th and the 26th of February, with a talented Torontonian by the name of Dan Kosub. You might have heard his song ” Blue and Grey” on the radio, here is the facebook event for our show on the 25th at Burritoville.

I’m excited to play at a venue called Burritoville.

I spent a day last week at Lasalle high school with my friend Kirsten Nielson who teaches there. She’s been teaching her students to dance, and she chose one of my songs to have them create their own unique dance routines to it. So , I went and watched brave young (mostly girls) dance their routines for me,I was really impressed, and very heart-warmed, what an honor. I was gifted with a nice bottle of White wine for coming ( always a plus ) and I sang a song or two for them, we’ve got pictures and some film from this special day, I’ll post it soon enough.

Album in a day?

I don’t particularly like only blogging about myself, I’ve decided to share this with you!

So I’m surfing the internet , looking for Beck tabs, so I can learn one of my favorite songs “dead Melodies” . Thought I’d take a look at his site, haven’t seen it in a while/wonder if he’s touring. Anyway, I stumble upon this bizarre collection of  jam sessions of collaborators such as Beck and Feist to name 2, and it’s called the Record Club. Since I’m in a rush I’ll post the intro paragraph on the website:

“Record Club is an informal meeting of various musicians to record an album in a day. The album chosen to be reinterpreted is used as a framework. Nothing is rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. A track is put up here once a week. The songs are rough renditions, often first takes that document what happened over the course of a day as opposed to a polished rendering. There is no intention to ‘add to’ the original work or attempt to recreate the power of the original recording. Only to play music and document what happens.” Sounds cool right? Here’s the link :

Resolution

Sometimes , I’m able to remove the negative thinking I so often have and I become absolutely fearless. The times when I can say to hell what people think or say, and do something because it’s in my heart, I am happiest. This is really hard to keep going as a constant way of life. Because naturally, to some extent we do care what people think. Suddenly I’m reminded of my Mother, whenever she seemed the happiest , it was when she was doing things that either completely embarrassed me , or when she was doing things that made me really proud. Either way, I realize now, that it doesn’t matter, as long as you can keep that light in your eyes, you are living. People don’t  kill dreams, but the fear they have does.

I’ve lived so much of my life in fear, in a subconcious state of ” what’s the point” I thought, if I start working on this one thing, I might be missing out on another, and subsequently ending up doing neither, now what good is that? As I get older, I realize how precious time is, and that I shouldn’t be ” doing neither” I should be doing anything and everything that makes me smile, and that is going to be my New Years resolution for 2010.
