I’ve uploaded some clips of 2 songs from my new EP to http://www.myspace.com/katiesevigny
Just a taste of what’s to come! I will have an official release of the single soon, and the EP will be ready for sale early fall.
You may also notice that I’ve changed my name to “ROSES”. To me it’s a name that means Romantic, among other things, and I figure it’s time to start fresh with a new name. Most of you know me as a pianist , kinda Sarah McLaughlin type singer, but I’ve been experimenting with new sounds, new instruments and I’m also inspired to create something a little different. I have so much to share as an artist, and this is only the beginning. I hope you will join me in celebration when the time comes for the c.d Launch! I’ll keep you posted to when and where, and for now….you can always join my group page on facebook :)
P.S I’ll be building a new website at this address www.thisisroses.com which will be my new BLOG and this one will be gone.
I’m going to take the summer to figure out how I want to share it with all of you, in the meantime, here is a quick video I make of me and Agnes Malkinson in the studio. She’s overlapping harmonies on my song ” Ghost in this small town” .
Hello World, I’m now open for donations! If you feel so inclined to donate towards the making of my album, the link is on the right saying” Would you like to help me make more music?” It’s easy peasy, and I would appreciate the help! I’m now currently without a job, and taking out loans for the c.d . For those of you who donate of course will get a free c.d in the mail, and of course a free pass to be my best friend for life! haha. More Katie music coming your way soon!
Having a Facebook account, has become like having a child. Once you create it, you can’t get rid of it, because if you did, people would shun you and would think you insane.
Little bit more refreshing I think. Simple and clean. Hope you like the new look here. Anyways, I’m in the preparing myself to go to Toronto again for part 2 of the making of this crazy release adventure at Telejet Studio. Looking forward to finishing everything up so I can have some new songs out there. I’ll be heading there near the end of June so I probably won’t be booking any shows for now, but I’ll go crazy in the fall for sure. I’m ready to start a new chapter in my life in music. I’ve started writing a lot of pop songs which I will never use for myself, but I plan to pitch them to other people to sing. Turns out it’s not that hard to write them radio friendly tunes. I just wrote a country/pop song for Kelly Pickler lol. You never know. I hear she’s looking right now. Catch you on the flip side. Hopefully everything will go just dandy in TO.
Well I spent 6 lovely days in Toronto last month with Lee Mellor and Gene Hughes to start working on an EP. So far so good, I am amazed at how much we were able to get done in so little time (4 days) the first two were spent with a friend gallivanting in the city. Played a show at “Not my Dog” Cafe too. Enjoyed some really yummy coffee, found my self crashing some random persons birthday dinner all by my wee self, did some shop shop for a couple lovely new dresses, and now, I’m back …taking notes so I can do it all over again :)
I’ve been writing songs since I was about 13 I think. First it felt simply like fun, a way to express myself and in return, I am left with a small gift and if I chose to share then so be it. As I grew older, it became more more about what I needed to learn about myself. Through the songs I was figured out how sensitive I was, but that it could be used as a tool to get to the bottom of how other people function, what makes them tick, and so psychology was my main inspiration.
I also learned through writing that I am one serious bitch, and if I’m angry with you, you’ll know it. Now as I’m getting older, my songs are starting to evolve of more than just curiosities. I used to write, like my emotions were…in Huge Monster Waves. now I feel like instead of riding them, I’m stepping back and learning what kinda storms work out here in the real world of the music business and which storms are just a plain mess! ( and need to stay on the re-work folder on my desktop)
Writing for people, people that want to spend money on music nowadays that sounds like something that rhymes with what they have on, like an accessory. ….well that’s one way to go. I think you get there when someone says either ” That’s Grey’s Anatomy ready” for instance….or whatever band someone cooler than you tells you is cool because they played at that venue in town that’s cool right now because some famous Canadian rocker was spotted there last weeked. What!?
Ya I could sing in my jazzy sexy pop voice and write witty simple songs for I-stuff commercials in hope that one day someone will unconsciously think ” Hey ., that sounds like something I know, because it’s been on the radio a trillion times, it makes my brain feel comfortable”
Or I could write songs that take the hard road, OR, is there an in between? It was all so simple when Joni Mitchell did it right? How deep did she dig , I wonder to unravel what makes a hit song? or did she trust in her back pocket that those tricks of foundation were locked, and she had her artistic freedom?
So it comes down to this, a decision. What kind of songwriter do you want to be? How hard do you want to play the game? I’m still trying to figure this one out for myself , if I’d like to be an all-star or not and I don’t think it matters really which way you chose to play as long as you can find a way to step out of the Baseball jersey at night.
So I’m leaving for Sarasota for a few days to enjoy my Easter weekend, with family and friends , I am SO ready to be somewhere else, I need inspiration. However I did write a song in it’s entirety yesterday and I’m pretty sure it has to be on the record I’m making. Which is the “cat” – I’m going to Toronto This Month to record an EP and my friend Lee Mellor will be co-producing the record. I am really excited to have Lee working on it, and lending his country skill magic talents. I’m not sure what to expect this time with recording, but I refuse to document any of it via YouTube and such, because I don’t want to jinx anything. This is the only info you’re getting….. unless it goes miraculously well, I might have a change of heart. So look out for that lol.
It’s going to be folk/pop c.d, with catchy songs, not anything like my old dark self from the past, writing songs that no one could follow but me. I’m in love with the guitar, and I wrote all of them on it, I can’t wait to share with the world what I’ve been up to.
Have a fantastic Saturday. ….it might just be hotter here than in Florida.
Would you like to have a picture of yourself with your coffee on a random website about just that? mycoffeeface.com is a blog dedicated to the artists and folk all over the world, what they do, and what coffee they love/how they drink it/and where.
Friday night I played a gig at Le Cagibi. Wonderful place to play, great folks, my only suggestion is that they dress up the wall behind the stage with some curtains or a mural or something, as you can see from the photos, it doesn’t look like much of a stage, but they were very nice people and treated us well, I would recommend it to anyone. I played with Erik Lind and also Nathan Wilson….Here are some photos: To see the rest visit the facebook fan page…
What else, well I went out the Shaika Cafe here in NDG last night for some music and coffee with Justin(my boyfriend), playing was Vidya Lutchman and her band. Here’s a random picture I took with my crappy camera:
Sunday is for relaxing and painting, I’ve been working on a few new ones. I’ll be putting them up here in a new tab I think soon. Look out for that.
